*PFS 4-EX - Race for the Runecarved Key (tier 1-12)

PFS 4-EX: Race for the Runecarved Key (tier 1-2)

-
System: Pathfinder Roleplaying Game
Duration: ~4 hours

A Pathfinder Society Special designed for levels 1–12+

An ancient Thassilonian artifact has been unearthed in Magnimar and is to be auctioned off by the city government. In order to maintain good relations with those in power in the City of Monuments, the Pathfinder Society must obtain the relic without simply stealing it, although employing any other means necessary. It falls to the PCs to infiltrate the auction, sabotage the other bidders’ efforts, and call in favors from those in the Society’s debt to ensure the Runecarved Key (and the secrets it unlocks) belongs to the Pathfinders when the adventure draws to a close.

Please note, that this is a timed game, that will last 4ish hours. It must start on time with everyone at the table.

Do not be late.

I will be the overseer GM.

Robert C. said

This will be Vendyl's last stand!

Richard B. was all

No tier 12+ ? Tongue

Rene D. was like

Are there enough folks to do a 12+ and someone to volunteer to GM it?

Richard B. said

I doubt if there's enough of us with tier 12+ PCs to bother. I was mostly kidding (thus, the smiley face).

I just signed up at 3-4, just to make sure to reserve a seat, though I could switch tiers later. I just have several low level PCs that I'm trying to get up to speed, so I'm sure I could play at 3-4.

Rene D. said

No worries. Smile Someone else asked about a higher tier as well, and as I'd like to be accommodating, I don't know if that would work.

Sammy T. said

We should make sure to push this at the next couple of January games. I will do so often and repeatedly!

Rene D. was like

Sammy for president!

Richard B. was all

That was me asking about the higher tier on the Windy City site, too. So just one person. Like I said, I'm ok playing one of my low level PCs and leaving my level 13 "retired".

Robert C. said

This will not be Vendyl's last stand. Did my maths wrong. She'll be 12 for this, so I'm in if we can field a 12+ party.

Timothy M. was like

No...I'd love to be part of a 12+ group (which would either require someone else willing to judge 10-11 or a lack of players, or both). And not just because I have two characters in that range whom I would love to be able to play again.

Robert C. said

so that would be three 12s. One more and a GM?

Timothy M. was all

I talked to Gary Shelley about judging it and he said he would. Just wanted enough time to prep it.

There are some other locals with characters who have made it to 12 or higher. Give it some time to see if they are interested as well.

Richard B. was all

You guys looking to play at 12, remember that if you play this after hitting level 12, you can't play that PC through Eyes of the Ten. If you've never played Eyes of the Ten, then you should make a point of playing that with your level 12 character and use a different character on this. I would only consider using my level 13 in this because he already finished Eyes of the Ten.

Robert C. was like

I believe there was a recent clarification that as long as you are <14 at the end of EotT, and you're okay.

Rene D. was like

@Tim: Cool. Would love to have a 12+ table going.

Robert C. was like

EotT clarification (courtesy of Rene):
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ntko?Ruby-Phoenix-Tournament-and-Eyes-of-th...

"part 1, gives you 2xp, parts 2-4, give 1xp. so, you can start it at 12.1 and finish it when you are < 14th lvl."

Richard B. was all

Some of the clarifications in that thread are based on older rules which have since changed. Pages 27-28 of the newest Guide to Organized Play (just published this week) says you must start with exactly 33 xp to play Eye of the Ten.

Personally, I don't like this new change to the rules, and I suspect it'll get changed back eventually, but I wouldn't recommend any of you risking it if you want to play Eyes of the Ten eventually with this PC.

Robert C. said

Blergh.

Ryan K. was all

Thinking about attending, but I'm pretty new to the "organized play". Should we have a character ready to go beforehand?

Rene D. was like

you can use a pregenerated character, or you can show up early and make one. up to you, we are easy Smile

Sammy T. said

For those who are unsure about what character or subtier to play:

There is only one tier for this special (Tier 1–12+). Tier indicates what level PCs may participate in the event (i.e. basically any level can participate in this event since the tier covers levels 1-12+)

In this special, there are: Subtier 1–2, Subtier 3–4, Subtier 5–6, Subtier 8–9, Subtier 10–11, and Subtier 12+. No character can play in a subtier more than 1 step away from the character's actual level. Thus, a 3rd-level PC can play down to Subtier 1–2, play at at his level in Subtier 3–4, or play up to Subtier 5–6.

As always, I caution against playing up in newer season scenarios.

Richard B. said

We might want to open up the full subtiers to more entries. We can sort out the details the day of the game, but I wouldn't want anyone to skip it because they couldn't register online.

Jessica W. was all

I signed up to play, but I would love to GM this if possible. Any chance of that?

Rene D. was like

Hell yeah Jessica. I think we need a second tier 1-2 table for sure. I'll ask Garrett to open some more GM slots and you can snag one.

@Richard: Great idea Smile

Rene D. was like

it looks like 8-9 could use another table as well. Smile

Garrett G. was all

Added one table of tier 1-2 and one table of tier 8-9.

Jessica W. was all

Cool, a friend of mine played this at Gen Con last year; he told me enough of the plot that I'd feel bad playing it. Could someone maybe bring a copy of the module to the next gaming session?

Sammy T. said

IF YOUR TIER IS FULL, KEEP SCROLLING DOWN TO LOOK FOR THE SAME TIER FURTHER DOWN THE LIST. The list is sorted chronological by date of creation and not by sub-tier--sorry for any inconvenience.

Jessica, Rathunde, Thomas Z--I will have hard copies of the scenario on 1/25 at the Dojo for you!

Garrett G. was like

Minor change:

I removed the additional tier 1-2 and tier 8-9 tables.

Instead, I have added a GM slot to the existing tier 1-2 and tier 8-9 tables. I will open up additional player slots once additional GMs sign up for those tables.

Rene D. was like

This also means whoever signed up on the bottom of the page will need to sign up again where appropriate. I think we need an 8-9 judge.

Steve H. said

I've got a level 7 character, so for this, can I play in the 10-11 or in the 5-6 if another table doesn't open up for 8-9?

Timothy M. said

I would suggest taking a 7th level PC through 5-6 and not 10-11. But it is your character and your risk.

Robert C. was all

Per Sammy's comment: "No character can play in a subtier more than 1 step away from the character's actual level." So I think a 7 would have to play 5-6 or 8-9.

Richard B. said

Given the shortage of players at 5-6, I'm sure they'd welcome a level 7. I'm signed up to play 3-4, but I may switch to 5-6 and play my level 5 sorcerer. I just worry that he's a little wimpy, and might not survive at that level.

Stephen K. said

I played a special this weekend at 6-7 that had a group of creatures doing something like 2d8+25 melee damage with a good attack mod. It wasn't even the end boss room. I have no idea whether this mod is similar, but I thought it might illuminate the discussion.

Perry L. was all

I'll be level 8 fighter by the time this runs, maybe nine depending on how much XP I get this weekend in my various games. I'd be happy to play up and open a spot in the 8-9 if I'm 9 or 8+ (I.E. 8 plus 1 or 2 scenarios to boost up my gear.

Steve H. was like

Thanks. Tier 5-6 it is, then.

William B. was all

Hey Alex we need your help, we need the sheets from the Pathfinder 3-23 Goblinblood Dead. The ones we started on our first game.

Matthew . was like

Hello, I see all the slots are taken up but I was told last time to post here anyways:

Level 1 Dwarf Cleric of Gorum here (Positive Energy Channel)

Hoping to get a spot, this sounds awesome!

Rene D. was like

I'll ask Garrett to open a 3rd GM for the 1-2 tier. Plus, looks like we need another for 8-9.

Rene D. said

Brad R. was all

looks like we could use a fighter type in tier 5-6 if anyone is up for it?

scott g. was like

Hey all. My friend, Jessica, asked me to run the level 8-9 tier for this event. I run my own Pathfinder game for my group, and have Dm'd since 1976. If you are amenable, I will do it, though I havent DM'd a Society game yet. You can reply here, or send me a note on the facebook page. I will make a post there, too.

Stephen K. was all

Sounds good scott. Always good to bring new people in.

Sammy T. said

Looking forward to tonight!

If you have to cancel, please take a moment to remove yourself from the game and drop a note down here!

Stephen K. was like

Such a great time last night! Thanks for hosting such an awesome event. And who would have known that a fruit cart would be such a task to overcome.
